The scientists said that both BQ.1 and BF.7 have mutations that can make them infectious and good at immunity. BA.5 and its sub-lineages currently account for less than 5% of COVID cases in India. Scientists said that BQ.1 was detected in the samples taken in October from the samples of Pune. “This is the first case of BQ.1 in India,” a senior scientist associated with the country’s Genome Surveillance Network confirmed.
