The Central Drugs Authority has recommended allowing Bharat Biotech’s ‘Covaxin’ vaccine to be administered to children and adolescents aged two to 18 years in case of emergency with certain conditions. Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech has completed Phase II-III trials of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine Covaccine for use in children and adolescents between the ages of two and 18 years. The company had submitted the data to the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) earlier this month for its verification and emergency use approval (EUS). The recommendations have been sent to the Drug Controller General of India for final approval.

At the same time, Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company Biological E has sought permission from the drug regulator for a Phase III clinical trial regarding giving its anti-Kovid-19 vaccine Corbevax as a booster dose to all those who have taken Kovishield or Covaccine. In the Phase II-III trial of the country-developed RBD protein-based Corbevax vaccine being administered to people aged between 18 and 80 years, the results are expected to be announced this month. The company has applied for permission from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for a Phase III trial with regard to administering Corbevax as a single booster dose to people who have received the Covishield or Covaccine vaccine.

zydus cadilla

Zydus Cadila is a three-dose non-needle vaccine. The vaccine was given emergency approval in August for use on adults and adolescents over 12 years of age. NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr VK Pal said that preparations are on to introduce Zydus Cadila vaccine under the National Immunization Program soon.

Serum Institute is testing the US company Novavax’s vaccine for children aged 7-11 years. The company has named this vaccine in India as Kovavax. In September this year, the Indian drug regulator had allowed the Serum Institute to test the US company Novavax’s vaccine on children in the age group of seven to 11 years. The Novavax vaccine has been brought to India by Serum under the name Kovavax.
